With schools heading back into session, New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo wants college-bound students to know what they're getting themselves into when they take out college loans.
Cuomo met with students at Bethlehem Central High School on Wednesday morning.
Last year, the attorney general's office went after colleges that were steering students to banks that would, in turn, give kick-backs to the schools.
That investigation spurred a state code of conduct.
Now, the federal government has followed suit with their own Student Bill of Rights law.
Cuomo put the situation in terms the students can understand.
"This loan is a bigger deal than the laptop," he says. "This loan is one of the largest things you may be buying in your life. Before you buy it, know what you're buying."
The national Student Bill of Rights law went into effect on Monday, September 1st.
